Friends of Dearborn Park End of Year Update
I believe we’ve had a very successful year and look forward to next year. How about sheep in the woods? We would love for someone to take the reins on a new committee to investigate using sheep to clear the path between the end of current path to Chevelle. Kevin Polite has a contact for the sheep and for a possible grant. Anyone interested please let us know and we can assist.
Terrific Tuesday. Thanks to the group that helped complete the removal of invasive ivy along the strip on Deerwood. This now allows that area to have a clear line of site from the street, which makes it much safer. Also, we painted the last bench.
Every Saturday at 10 AM: Reading with the Ranger
@ Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve
Come join Ranger Kimberly as she interacts with a thrilling and adventurous story with the children. Ages 5-8 are welcome.
The Little Creek Horse Farm (2057 Lawrenceville Hwy, Decatur) is open for anyone to pick up some of their vast amounts of horse manure for garden/yard amendment use from 9a-2p THIS Saturday, Nov. 19. They are trying to get their current manure off the property to ideally make way for a future compost system for it all, so you would not only be helping yourself by taking it! Poster with more details attached above as well. This fresh so you do not want to initially mix directly into your garden. No commercial vehicles without prior approval.
Saturday, 11/19 from 3:30 PM – 6 PM:
Hiking Atlanta’s Hidden Forest Author Hike
@ Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve
Join Jonah McDonald, author of Hiking Atlanta’s Hidden Forests for a special sunset hike on Arabia Mountain. Jonah is a storyteller, outdoor guide and naturalist, and looks forward to sharing his passion for the flora, fauna, and history of Arabia with fellow hikers. The route you’ll be taking is one of his favorites in all of Atlanta, the Mountain View Trail which skirts the lakeshore at the mountain’s base. Relax at the peak and watch the sky light up with colors as the sun sets. Always dress for the weather, wear long pants and closed toe shoes, bring water and snacks!
Community Garden in Dearborn park. We are talking to DeKalb about putting a Community Garden in the park and are awaiting details on the cost of the irrigation system they would put in.
Again, thanks for everyone’s assistance and you can follow us on Facebook and our updated website http://www.DearbornPark.org and Twitter
